You (2021) | IMDb: 7.9/10
Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl) returns as a scoundrel, we can't help but fawn over in this Lifetime thriller that's now available on Netflix. Joe Goldberg, played by Badgley, is an apparently kind guy who works at a local bookshop and courts a gorgeous blonde named Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Unfortunately, the rom-com part of this thriller ends there. Joe's "courting" include pursuing the object of his desires, breaking into her apartment, kidnapping her partner, and spying on her most private moments. That's just from the first episode. If anything, this program demonstrates how dangerous the current dating environment can be. And, as if the first season wasn't enough, Badgley comes to prey on another unfortunate woman, this time named Love (Victoria Pedretti), who may put up a stronger fight than his past victims.
Peaky Blinders (2021) | IMDb: 8.8/10
Peaky Blinders is the only British import licensed by Netflix in the US, and it's relatively the UK version of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, happening in the same period and covering similar territory. Peaky Blinders features British gangsters, and although bootlegging and gambling are involved, so is the IRA. What Boardwalk lacks is Cillian Murphy's piercing, furious performance as something close to Prohibition-era Boyd Crowder. In seasons two and three, the program includes Tom Hardy as a fantastic recurrent character (along with Noah Taylor). It's addicting, violent, and passionate as hell, and it manages to merge rough-accented melodrama with historical events in such a way that everything seems current and relevant.
The Umbrella Academy (2021) IMDb: 8/10
Superhero team-ups are many, but the TV version of this award-winning comic book created by Gerard Way seems fully original. The show follows the lives of seven children who were all delivered on the same day to random moms who had no idea they were pregnant. Kids are adopted by a mystery billionaire and taught to utilize their superhuman skills to combat evil, but as they become older, their disturbed upbringing catches up with them, and they're forced to struggle to live regular lives. Season two involves time travel to the 1960s, doomsday cults, and a major mission with JFK's assassination. It's bizarre in every way, which is precisely what the genre requires at the moment.
Sex Education (2021) | IMDb: 8.3/10
This British teenage comedy follows in the footsteps of Nick Kroll's Big Mouth, covering all of the cringe-worthy, taboo topics related to sex, but not in animated form. The show follows a mother and son as they try to figure out how to have those awkward "talks." The mother is a sex therapist named Dr Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson), and her son Otis (Asa Butterfield) is the youngster who has to deal with her overbearing tendencies at home while also providing sex advice to his pals through an underground sex therapy ring. Although the program loves to play with '80s high-school stereotypes, there's genuine subtlety and effort put into how these teenagers are presented and their relationships with sex. Anderson's comic timing is also impeccable.
Stranger Things (2021) | IMDb: 8.8/10
Stranger Things is a throwback and love letter to Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter's early 1980s films, and it feels both familiar and fresh. The first season follows Will, a little child who is kidnapped by a The Thing-like creature and stuck in a Poltergeist-like environment. Will's mother (Winona Ryder) asked for help from the local sheriff to investigate her son’s kidnapping. Meanwhile, Will's goofy, Goonies-style closest buddies get on their bikes and conduct some investigation of their own. They eventually make friends with an alien-like lady with telepathic abilities. Season two maintained that tone, delving deeper into government conspiracies and alien monsters’ intention on wreaking havoc in small-town Indiana. Season three allowed the show's charismatic young cast to mature a bit, let them battle with more complicated villains and uncover a Soviet conspiracy.

Staged (2020) | IMDb: 8.6/10
Although this British comedy has mostly gone unnoticed, reviewers have praised it for its basic yet effective idea and the remarkable acting abilities of Michael Sheen and David Tennant. The actors attempt to practice rehearsing through videoconferencing owing to the epidemic in the first season. The director, Simon (played by Simon Evans, who also developed and directed the program), does his best to work around the technological challenges and the actors’ inflated egos as the they strive to run their lines and convey the spirit of their characters. The topical series, which premiered in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, has been dubbed a "pleasant distraction" by Louis Chilton of The Independent, who sees it as an "eminently compelling picture of two artists as petulant, arrogant toddlers."
The Great (2020) | IMDb: 8.1/10
The Great is a hilarious, genre-bending drama about Catherine, the Great's climb from uninteresting outsider to Russian Empress with the starring of Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. Chekhov would blush and throw his vodka at this anti-historical frolic through 18th-century Russia. It's a fictitious series that plays up some of the historical individuals' most basic, dumbest, and stereotypical traits. Catherine, played by Fanning, is ardent and idealistic, with a hint of sadism toward her perverted, dopey husband, Peter III.
Dopesick (2021) | IMDb: 8.5/10
With a star-studded cast and a timely and contentious issue, it's no wonder that this miniseries has gotten a lot of attention. The drama, which is based on Beth Macy's nonfiction book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and The Drug Company That Addicted America, tackles Big Pharma problems in eight compelling episodes. The series investigates America's opioid issue from multiple perspectives, with a particular focus on the marketing of the medication OxyContin, Purdue Pharma, and the Sackler family. It dives into the disastrous consequences of drug addiction in the country, the individuals and corporations being held responsible in the court of public opinion, from pain alleviation to addiction, regulators, drug salespeople, and legal concerns.
The Good Doctor (2017) | IMDb: 8.1/10
While some viewers are critical of the portrayal of autism, the inflated and gimmicky plots that occasionally accompany this medical drama, Freddie Highmore's acting is highly lauded. Dr Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) is a surgical resident and also an autistic genius. His remarkable skills and powers come with their own set of obstacles. The program is about Shaun's growth as a person as he attempts to put his traumatic past behind him while how the staff learns to handle Shaun's unusual skills.
Only Murders in the Building (2021) | IMDb: 8.3/10
This is a buddy comedy about three strangers, portrayed by Steve Martin (also the show's co-creator), Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, who join together because they all have an obsession with real crime. When they are really involved in one, though, things become a little tricky. The series was hailed right away for its endearing lead characters, as well as the "hilarious and smart" tale that pokes fun at society's preoccupation with the sad genre. Tina Fey, Nathan Lane, and Sting will all make cameo appearances.

The Grand Tour (2016) | IMDb: 8.7/10
On the BBC's Top Gear, the three of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond have been driving fantastic vehicles and clowning about with each other for years. Despite their departure from that program, the fun continues on The Grand Tour, which reunites the three caustic presenters for a show that is very similar to Top Gear in structure. Studio portions and test drives on the show's test track, the "Eboladrome," are frequently included in episodes. The finest episodes, like with Top Gear, are those in which the hosts go to exotic locations to test strange automobiles on unknown terrain. The Grand Tour is a welcome return to form for auto aficionados and Top Gear viewers who are dissatisfied with the show's current hosts.
The Boys (2019) | IMDb: 8.7/10
The Boys is based on the comic series, which has the same name, by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. It follows a group of vigilantes who take it upon themselves to police super-powered heroes misusing their talents and exploit the public's confidence in them. This futuristic series is where superpowers, corporate greed, and media centralization have bled together to produce a uniquely terrible sort of corruption. It is as brutal and shockingly violent as it is clever. The viewer witnesses everything through the eyes of Hughie, a regular person whose life is irrevocably changed by a chance meeting with a superhero.
The Wheel of Time (2021) | IMDb: 9.4/10
Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai, a mystical, all-female society, takes five young people from their little hamlet on a risky quest. She believes that one of them is a strong kid who, as the Dragon's reincarnation, has been granted prophecy powers that might rescue the planet (or destroy it). The program, based on the Robert Jordan novel series of the same name, was renewed for a second season ahead of the release of the first, with the spectacular graphics and intense action one would expect from a show in the epic fantasy genre.
Modern Love (2019) | IMDb: 8.0/10
This romantic comedy anthology series, which started in 2019 and has an incredible ensemble of A-list stars in the first two seasons (eight episodes each), was inspired by a weekly column in The New York Times. The series follows several New York City individuals as they cope with the difficulties of finding and maintaining romance in the current day. Kit Harington, Anna Paquin, Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andy Garca, Dev Patel, John Slattery, Catherine Keener, Cristin Milioti, Sofia Boutella, Ed Sheeran, and Judd Hirsch are among the stars who feature in the half-hour episodes of the series.
Upload (2020) | IMDb: 8.0/10
Upload is set in 2033 when moribund people can choose to be "uploaded" into virtual reality afterlives. Six tech companies are in charge of these virtual afterlives, resulting in a new form of a corporate battle over human mortality. Nathan's (Robbie Amell) self-driving automobile crashes in Los Angeles, and his lover transfers him into the opulent Lakeview digital afterlife. There, he meets Nora, a Lakeview customer service worker who welcomes Nathan to his idea of paradise. The story chronicles their friendship as Nathan adjusts to life away from his loved ones, while Nora juggles her virtual Nathan connection with her real-world financial and personal problems.

Doctor Who (2021) | IMDb: 8.6/10
The revived edition of this long-running British sci-fi series, which has been produced by the BBC since 1963, has found a home on HBO Max. It is based on the adventures of The Doctor, a Time Lord who travels across time in the TARDIS spaceship to aid mankind. Hacks (2021) | IMDb: 8.2/10
Jean Smart's comeback continues with HBO Max's Hacks, a new original series that gives her the major role she so well deserves. Deborah Vance, played by Smart, is a legendary comic on the Las Vegas strip who has been a staple for decades. This is where the problem is. Deborah's act is starting to seem a little old, and she's in dire need of new material to breathe new life into her image. Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) is a former TV writer whose career has come to a halt due to a social media gaffe. If the two strong-willed women can learn to co-exist and work together, Ava's comedy skill might be just what Deborah needs.
Chernobyl (2019) | IMDb: 9.4/10
HBO’s Chernobyl is best described as a historical disaster. The miniseries depicts the Soviet Union's Chernobyl accident in 1986 and the ensuing inquiry into how it occurred. This show is not for the faint of heart, since it depicts the most horrible elements of radiation illness. Valery Legasov, one of the key investigators who directly monitors the Chernobyl cleaning activities, is played by Jared Harris, who leads the ensemble cast. Valery must pay a great personal cost as Chernobyl left no one unaffected.
Mare of Easttown (2021) | IMDb: 8.5/10
In HBO's newest miniseries, Mare of Easttown, Kate Winslet leads a stellar ensemble. Winslet portrays Detective Sergeant Marianne Fahey "Mare" Sheehan, a mother who is plagued by her son's death and the unsolved murder of a little girl a year before. Mare's personal life is in shambles right now as she copes with her divorce from Frank Sheehan (David Denman). Meanwhile, Carrie Layden (Sosie Bacon), her former daughter-in-law, is suing Mare for custody of her grandson, Drew. A fresh murder case, on the other hand, will quickly entangle Mare in an even more dangerous web of lies and deceptions.
The Big Bang Theory (2019) | IMDb: 8.1/10
In 2019, this comedy came to an end after 12 seasons of popularity, and HBO allegedly paid $425 million for exclusive rights to the CBS show. You may catch up on all four seasons and relive the social development of four geeky pals as they encounter the pretty waitress and wannabe actor next door and broaden their walled circle. In the show's final years, the ensemble cast was among the highest-paid television stars, with each actor earning $1 million per episode at a time. The series' appeal was unaffected by the scientific jargon that dominated most of the difficult conversation; you didn't have to be an astronomer or engineer to appreciate the clever comedy and excellent chemistry among the characters.
